H5 Academy Youth Basketball and Leadership Program

The H5 Academy Youth Basketball and Leadership Program (‘The Academy’). The Academy is a 10-month youth basketball and leadership program in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Operating out of the Toronto District School Board’s Central Technical School (CTS), The Academy was designed to provide under privileged student-athletes with access to an accredited high school curriculum, work placements, mentorship, and affordable advanced leadership and basketball training.The Academy activities take place in a structured, developmentally-appropriate, and culturally inclusive learning environment and includes mandatory study hall, advanced business and leadership courses to assist the students with the skills necessary to succeed in life, beyond being an athlete.

Ball Talk is a 90-minute anti-bullying workshop facilitated for middle school and high school aged youth in the TDSB and community events. Based on scholarly research on bullying behaviour and cyber-bullying intervention models, Ball Talk addresses the responsibility one has to take a stand against bullying behaviour at the individual level.

M.A.C.I.S

Mentoring Advocating, Children and Youth Impacted by the Justice System (M.A.C.I.S.)- The M.A.C.I.S. program is a free 8-week after-school drop-in program for under-served and under-represented children and youth whose parents and/or close family members currently are or previously were incarcerated. Facilitators help youth to develop a positive peer to peer support system during  weekly program activities and provide opportunities for participants to connect with external mentors who have gone through similar experiences.
